Women At Dev: Anita Hall
In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re featuring some of the amazing women who work here at Dev Technology. They were each asked a few questions and provided answers in their own words. Today we’re featuring Anita Hall, an Application Developer.
How did you get into technology?
I got into tech via a family business. My stepdad owns a small development company in DC, and after college I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. After speaking with him he convinced me to work in his office just answering phone calls and emails. That quickly grew to me learning every part of the business and for about 6-7 years I was the Office Manager, HR Director, and the Business Development Lead. Initially the tech side of the business seemed boring to me, but after watching the team deliver projects to very happy clients, I decided I wanted to learn. I began with translating requirements from the statement of work into user stories and wire frames. And shortly after I learned how to develop, and that eventually lead me to Dev.
How does Dev Technology support you as a woman in tech?
Dev Technology supports me as a woman in tech in a few different ways. One thing that really stands out to me is the representation of women in several different roles at different levels. We have a woman Co-Founder, a woman CEO, and several women in senior roles throughout the company. As a woman I’m also given the opportunity to come together with other women at the company and read books through the book club and attend events specifically for women in our field. In addition to that, Dev has created a space where everyone is respected and treated with kindness, so I never feel like my thoughts and ideas don’t matter; I feel very supported.
What does Dev Technology’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DE&I) initiative mean to you?
To me Dev Technology’s DE&I initiative means thoughtfulness and care. I’ve never been a part of a company that took such good care of the company culture and work environment. I feel like Dev put the cherry on top by being proactive about topics that a lot of companies dance around or avoid all together. It makes me feel like I matter, and that Dev really cares about each one of its employees.
How do you feel your work at Dev Technology makes an impact?
I feel like my work at Dev impacts the quality of life for a lot of people. I get to interact with and help people that use the things that Dev has helped to create or maintain and they’re always so grateful for the work that we do to help make their jobs more pleasant and manageable.
What inspired you to join Dev Technology?
One of my coworkers from a past job had worked with Dev and she called me and told me I had to apply because she hadn’t experienced such a great company in all her years working in our field. Ultimately that lead me to apply. However, upon meeting my potential team members and coworkers I got such great energy that I really felt like, “Wow, this is the place for me.”
